As a digital marketer, tracking the success of your Google Ads campaigns is essential to understanding their impact and making data-driven decisions. One effective way to do this is by using UTM parameters.

UTM parameters are tags that you add to the end of your URLs to help track the source, medium, and campaign of your traffic. By adding UTM parameters to your Google Ads campaigns, you can track how well your ads are performing, which campaigns are generating the most traffic, and which keywords are driving the most clicks.

While adding UTM parameters to a single ad or landing page can be done manually, it becomes tedious and time-consuming when you have multiple ads and campaigns to track. Luckily, Google Ads provides a solution to this issue - bulk editing through the Google Ads Editor.

In this blog post, we will provide you with a step-by-step guide on how to bulk add UTM parameters to your Google Ads campaigns.

Step 1: Download and Install Google Ads Editor

The first step is to download and install Google Ads Editor. This free desktop application provided by Google enables you to make bulk changes to your Google Ads campaigns. You can download it from the Google Ads website, and once you have downloaded it, follow the installation instructions.

Step 2: Sign in to Your Google Ads Account

After installing the Google Ads Editor, sign in to your Google Ads account through the application. Once you have signed in, the Google Ads Editor will automatically download your campaigns to your computer.

Step 3: Navigate to the "Make Multiple Changes" Tab

Once you have signed in, navigate to the left-hand navigation menu and click on "Make multiple changes." This option allows you to make bulk changes to your campaigns.

Step 4: Select the Ads You Want to Add UTM Parameters to

In the "Make multiple changes" tab, select the "Ads" tab. Here, you will see all your ads that have been downloaded from your Google Ads account. You can choose to add UTM parameters to specific ads or all your ads by selecting the checkbox next to each ad.

Step 5: Click on "Edit" and Select "Append Text"

Once you have selected the ads, click on the "Edit" button and select "Append text" from the drop-down menu. This option allows you to add text to the end of your ad's URL without replacing the existing URL.

Step 6: Enter Your UTM Parameters

In the text box provided, enter the UTM parameters you want to add. For example, if you want to track the source of your traffic, you can add the parameter "?utm_source=GoogleAds." Similarly, if you want to track the medium, you can add the parameter "?utm_medium=cpc." You can add as many UTM parameters as you want to each ad.

Step 7: Preview Your Changes

After entering your UTM parameters, click on the "Preview Changes" button to see how your changes will look. The Google Ads Editor will show you a preview of the changes you have made to your ads, so you can check if everything looks correct.

Step 8: Apply Your Changes

If you are satisfied with your changes, click on the "Apply" button to apply your changes to your campaigns. The Google Ads Editor will automatically update the URL of each ad with the UTM parameters you have added.

Step 9: Upload Your Changes to Google Ads

Once you have applied your changes, you will need to upload them to your Google Ads account. To do this, click on the "Post Changes" button in the top right-hand corner of the Google Ads Editor. The changes will be uploaded to your account, and you will be able to see them in your Google Ads dashboard.

"Bulk adding UTM parameters to your Google Ads can potentially save you an enormous amount of time and ensure that your tracking is up to scratch. Having the correct tracking will in turn enable you to make data driven decisions on how to optimise your media spend."
